Just had a chat with a Fjällräven representative about the new PAK5 line, this is short summary.

The main goal when creating the PAK5 line was to create lightweight gear that still is durable and has good quality. They have not aimed at the lightest gear ever made, but gear that can keep your pack weight down and still take the beating of outdoor use. Another focus during the development has been to keep the pack-size down.

The PAK5 is be a product line that will be developed further with new products added as time goes by. Fjällräven will also be launching a PAK5 winter gear line further on. The now presented products will hit the stores, sometime in March 2008.

Some product detail updates

Fjällräven PAK5 Backpack

The backpack has volume of 40 liter.

Fjällräven PAK5 Tent

The tent is a 2 person tent about the same size a Akka Shape R/S 2 though the outer length will be slightly shorter.

Is this the lightest tent in the world? A 750g (26.4 oz) double wall tent? That’s 110g (3.8 oz) lighter than the current Guinness World Record Holder, Terra Nova Laser Competition! But what brand is it? It looks awfully alot like a new Terra Nova tent, but there are other manufacturers that have similar models, Hillebergs Akto for example.

GSI Martini

GSI Outdoor is starting to become one of my favorite companies, who other to come with the need for a on-the-trail martini glass! And there are two versions, a stylish James Bond worthy in stainless steel (pictured) and a weight-weenie version in lexan. The Bond version comes in at about 215 grams (7.6 oz) and the one for those how wish to save weight comes in at about 75 grams (7.6 oz).
