X Course 28 is a new ski-pack from Lafuma for winter 2008/09. As it’s name suggests it’s a 28 liter backpack and it weighs 930 grams.

Quarter Dome is a new freestanding tent from REI. It’s available in a solo, a 2-person and a 3-person variant and it looks like it has an interesting pole configuration. The weights are solo: 3 lbs. 4 oz. (1.47 kg), 2-person: 4 lbs. 2 oz. (1.87 kg) and 3-person: 5 lbs. (2.27 kg). The two and three person variants has dual doors and vestibules.

The new 2008 tents from Hilleberg, Soulo, Allak and Kaitum 3 is now available in stores. In Sweden GetOut.se has them for sale and in the US they are available at hilleberg.com.

The Khamsin is a new mountaineering pack from Arc’teryx, for spring 2008. The pack comes in two different versions the Khamsin 40 and the Khamsin 70 and each of them available in three sizes.

Khamsin 40:

• Short:Weight: 51 oz (1.4 kg), Volume: 2136 cu in (35 ltr) to 2441 cu in (40 ltr) 
• Regular:Weight: 54 oz (1.5 kgs), Volume: 2441 cu in (40 ltr) to 2746 cu in (45 ltr)
• Tall:Weight: 57 oz (1.7 kgs), Volume: 2746 cu in (45 ltr) to 3051 cu in (50 ltr)

Khamsin 70:

• Short:Weight: 74 oz (2.1 kg), Volume: 3967 cu in (65 ltr) to 4272 cu in (70 ltr)
• Regular:Weight: 78 oz (2.2 kgs), Volume: 4272 cu in (70 ltr) to 4577 cu in (75 ltr)

The Khazri is a new lightweight alpine pack. As the Khamsin it comes in two different versions the Khazri 35 and the Khazri 55.

Khazri 35:

• Regular:Weight: 46 oz (1.3 kgs), Volume: 2136 cu in (35 ltr) to 2441 cu in (40 ltr)
• Tall:Weight: 49 oz (1.4 kgs), Volume: 2441 cu in (40 ltr) to 2746 cu in (45 ltr)

Khazri 55:

• Short:Weight: 64 oz (1.8 kgs), Volume: 3051 cu in (50 ltr) to 3356 cu in (55 ltr)

The SonyEricsson C702 Cyber-shot is a new 5 mega-pixel camera phone targeted at outdoor users. The phone has a built in GPS and photos will be automatically geo-tagged. The phone is “splash and dust resistant” and will be available from Q2 2008. The dimensions of the phone will be 106 x 48 x 15.5 mm and it will weigh 105 grams.

Powder Poetry(below) and Snow Passion(above) are two new ski backpacks from Haglöfs. Powder Poetry is a 18 liter backpack. Snow Passion is a slightly small backpack holding 14 liters. Both backpacks comes in the same Black/Charcoal, Java/Soil and Papaya/Mango color schemes.

Just noted that Big Agnes has release a few new tents for 2008. Copper Spur UL2 (above) and Copper Spur UL3 are the lightest backpacking tents made by Big Agnes so far. The Copper Spur UL2 weighs 3lb 6oz (1530 grams) and the Copper Spur UL3 weighs 4lb 3oz (1900 grams). It looks like it has an interesting design to keep the fly tensioned.

Pine Island 4 is a free standing three season camping or base camp tent with dual doors and vestibules. It weighs 8lb 11oz (3940 grams).

Mine Mountain is a new four season series that holds two new tents, Spring Ridge 2 (above) and Royal Flush 3 (below). The Spring Ridge 2 weighs 5lb (2270 grams) and the Royal Flush 3weighs 7lb 7oz (3375 grams). There is also a new bivy sack in water proof eVent fabric called Three Wire Bivy.

Haglöfs “Rand” backpack will be redesigned for winter 2008/2009. “Rand“ is ski backpack so it features mounting points for skis and snowboards. The backpack will come in two sizes, 38l and 48l (No trace of the 28l version that is available today). The 38l version will weigh 1850 grams and the 48l version 1950 grams, that means that they will have gained 1000 grams from todays versions. Hopefully it will be worth it.
